Stand For The Kids is an annual event held nationally by different chapters of Phi Delta Epsilon. The goal of SFTK is to help raise money for Children's Miracle Network (in our case CHLA), Phi Delta Epsilon's philanthropic partner, by standing in solidarity for the kids who cannot stand themselves. Children's Miracle Network is a network of hospitals that provides low-cost and even free healthcare to children, regardless of their family's ability to pay. By participating in our event, you are standing in solidarity with those kids too! For every hour we stand, we are raising awareness and funds for the children at CHLA! ![]() Every month, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles needs around 1000 pints of blood to operate its life-saving procedures and heal its sick children. Unfortunately, the blood bank is SEVERELY LOW right now and CHLA needs your help! The hospital typically obtains around 800 pints from its donors’ valued contributions: this is where all of you lovely donors come in. This semester, we are hosting our blood drive differently. Instead of our usual one-day blood drive, we will be hosting a TWO-DAY BLOOD DRIVE! On Wednesday, October 22nd and Wednesday, October 29th, in hopes to make a difference. In the past, the fraternity has helped CHLA attain nearly 100 pints of blood in one day, but we know we can do better and we need your help more than ever! Our goal is to have donations of about 200 pints of blood For The Kids! Let's try to surpass this goal! We know that California State University, Northridge can make a huge and positive impact at Children's Hospital Los Angeles! So please come support Phi Delta Epsilon and CHLA in its mission to provide a healthier future for its children in front of the Matador Bookstore Complex on Wednesday 22nd and 29th from 10AM to 2PM! Donate some blood and have some fun with CHLA and Phi Delta Epsilon - CA Theta! If you donate blood you will also be placed in a drawing to win GAS MONEY, STARBUCKS GIFT CARDS, MOVIE TICKETS, DINNER AND A MOVIE, & SO MUCH MORE! We hope to see many of you there! FTK (For the Kids)! ![]() It's a new semester, which means that there is another opportunity to save a child's life. This semester, Phi Delta Epsilon is hosting another blood drive to support Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Your donations will make a huge impact on children suffering from life threatening diseases and disorders, like sickle cell anemia! ![]() Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects hemoglobin, the protein found in red blood cells that helps carry oxygen throughout the body. It mostly affects people of African ancestry, but also occurs in other ethnic groups, including people who are of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern descent. More than 70,000 Americans have sickle cell anemia. Many children with sickle cell anemia occasionally need to get transfusions of healthy red blood cells to help carry oxygen to the tissues of their bodies more effectively and treat complications. A few may need transfusions regularly. Blood transfusions save lives every day. By donating your blood, you can give these children another shot at living a healthier life! Information about Sickle Cell Anemia is provided by: Kids Health We can't wait to see you here in front of the Matador Bookstore Complex! If you have never donated before, here is how the process takes place: 1. Verify your Eligibility • You will be asked about your history and your general health on the the day of donation 2. Check your Vital Signs • A CHLA staff member will check your blood pressure, pulse and temperature, and then, he or she will take a blood sample to check for anemia. 3. Begin the Donation Process • A blood donation takes only 15 minutes. It is important for you to relax. Your body will begin replenishing blood almost immediately. Blood can be donated every 8 weeks. 4. Ready for Departure • CHLA will provide you with snacks, juice and water after you have donated to help you replenish your blood.
